Photograph by Andrew Beaujon. Lee Highway may get renamed for Mildred & Richard Loving. Woodrow Wilson High School could be renamed for its first Black teacher. The Washington Football Team renamed itself Washington Football Team. A profound reckoning over the United States’ awful racial history made 2020 a big year for rebranding relics of Washington’s past. Herewith, some more of the things around town that got renamed or are in the process of (maybe? probably?) being renamed. Barkada A DC wine bar initially abandoned plans to name itself after a Tagalog word for a group of friends, but then it decided to stick with it.

Dwayne Haskins Apologizes for Partying Maskless

Share Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins has apologized after photos appeared of him apparently having a great time, maskless, with a number of women. The photos first appeared on a now-private Instagram account and were shared on Twitter by Rudy Gersten, the executive director of a conservative think tank in DC. As the  In one story, a woman is sitting on the Washington quarterback’s lap with both parties holding wads of cash without masks on. Another story shows five maskless women wearing Washington No. 7 jerseys (Haskins’ number) sipping mimosas around a table. Is this Dwayne Haskins? I really hope not. A scene from December s rally. Photograph by Evy Mages Women for America First has filed a permit to hold a demonstration in DC on January 6, the day Congress is expected to confirm that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election. Those dates–setup on Friday and a demonstration on Saturday–would have likely cast the rallies as an answer to Joe Biden’s inauguration on January  20. Now the group, which continues to encourage President Trump not to concede, has amended its application, Litterst says, which means its event will coincide with Trump’s calls for demonstrations on January 6.

The truck was on its side and there was only property damage, a spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service said on Twitter. On the same website, the Virginia Department of Transportation Northern Virginia district noted that a truck full of cheese caught fire on the day after Christmas in 2017.

Meghan and Harry Team With José Andrés

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry didn’t take Washingtonian‘s suggestion that they should move to DC, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will do the next best thing: Their Archewell Foundation will fund four community relief centers for chef José Andrés’s World Central Kitchen organization, Bloomberg reported Sunday. The first two centers will be built on Dominica and Puerto Rico, and the royals will build two more in the future. World Central Kitchen “inspires us through compassion in action,” they said in a statement to Bloomberg. Related World Central Kitchen has served millions of meals in the US during the coronavirus pandemic, paying local restaurants to prepare food during a time that’s been brutal for the hospitality business.
