Labour announces plan to clean up Holyrood and restore trust in parliament

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar SCOTTISH Labour has announced plans for a commission to clean up Holyrood and restore trust in the Scottish Parliament.  Party leader Anas Sarwar said both Holyrood and the Scottish Government have been allowed to descend into a bit of a joke in recent weeks.  He plans to consult on a number of ideas, including the establishment of an independent ethics commission to oversee the Scottish Government. He suggested MSPs could also be given the same parliamentary protections – such as from contempt of court rules – as MPs.  Meanwhile, a right to recall MSPs in exceptional circumstances could also be considered.

Alex Salmond should not be included in TV election debates, says Anas Sarwar

Earlier today, he said the party would write to Ofcom over the issue. But Mr Sarwar said the Alba Party is not a serious attempt to actually influence politics but rather a political campaign that is trying to cover a bid for revenge .  Asked if he would share a platform with Mr Salmond, Mr Sarwar initially said it was for the broadcasters to decide .  Pushed on this, he said: I am happy to share a platform with people who want to debate Scotland s future.  What I don t want to do is get involved in any kind of revenge mission. Asked if he would refuse to share a platform with Mr Salmond, Mr Sarwar was unable to say either way.

Anas Sarwar: Voters in Glasgow will tell far-right candidate where to go

Jayda Fransen VOTERS in Glasgow will tell a far-right candidate where to go , the leader of Scottish Labour has said.  Anas Sarwar said he had no fear over Jayda Fransen s decision to stand in Glasgow Southside, where both he and Nicola Sturgeon are running.  Ms Fransen announced earlier this year that she planned to stand against the “SNP commies, Marxists, naughty people”. Although a member of the British Freedom Party, documents from Glasgow City Council show Ms Fransen will be running as an independent. She has previously been convicted of a number of religiously-aggravated crimes, including harassment in both 2016 and 2018 – the latter of which saw her sentenced to 36 weeks in prison.
