Scotland Loves Local: More than 200 grants handed out across Scotland

HUNDREDS of projects across Scotland are sharing £1 million to help improve and promote their communities, thanks to the Scottish Government. More than 200 grants from the Scotland Loves Local Fund will benefit 300 towns across the country to help them recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Funded by the Scottish Government, they aim to support small-scale improvements to enhance places while helping motivate people to shop, eat and relax in their community while also promoting places and ensuring public safety. As well as providing safe shopping information, grants have been awarded to support schemes including local marketing campaigns, street enhancements, community gardens and work to support local producers.

Town centre and tourism leaders have united in a powerful plea for shoppers to think local first this Christmas. Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP) and VisitScotland say the need for locals to show their support for the businesses in their community has never been greater than this festive season. And, whether it be vouchers for a local shop, meal out or a getaway at a hotel or attraction close to home, they believe the gift choices on offer have also never been stronger as people appreciate more of what’s on their doorstep. Both organisations are championing the Scotland Love Local campaign message for people to prioritise supporting businesses around them - whether in person or online - to fuel the nation’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
