West Fife groups share in £1m fund | Dunfermline Press

PROJECTS in West Fife have secured a share of a £1 million fund to help improve and promote communities. Three schemes in the area are among those benefitting from the Scotland Loves Local Fund, which has made more than 200 grants nationally to help communities recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Among those are It’s Not All Black and White CIC Ltd (part of the Visit Dunfermline initiative), who were awarded £3,000 for promoting local businesses in a bespoke campaign. Also, SSERC in Pitreavie Business Park, a charity that promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects, have received £1,250 to convert a garden into a digital garden. And, the Food from Fife programme, which has benefited from £5,000 to promote the region’s food and drink producers.

Cash boost to get Annan open for business following pandemic

Annan Community Council will get £2,050 to help communities recover from the pandemic. The town is one of more than 300 across Scotland benefitting from the £1m Scotland Loves Local Fund. Money will be used to pay for ‘open for business maps’ and a new visitor board for the town centre, social media and outdoor hand sanitiser. Grants are administered by Scotland’s Towns Partnership, chief officer Phil Prentice said: “Whether by supporting local businesses in person or online, money that’s spent locally stays local.”

The daughters of local businessman Syed Abdul Hamid, who is also known as Raj, were inspired by their dad’s generosity throughout the pandemic, which saw him offer up free meals to NHS workers and frontline staff at his restaurant Carron to Mumbai based in the town.
