New Bedford Police Charge Connecticut Man in Bail Scam
NEW BEDFORD Charges have been filed against a Connecticut man after police say he duped an elderly man out of $9,500.
According to New Bedford Police, the victim reported that on February 8 at around 9 a.m., he received a phone call from a man indicating the victim’s granddaughter was in jail and needed $9,500 for bail. He reported that shortly after, a male and a female arrived at the residence and retrieved the money from the victim.
Police were made aware of the incident, and they say it was soon learned that a second attempt was made to take an additional $3,300 from the victim. New Bedford Police patrol officers stopped a suspect vehicle in the victim’s neighborhood.

STOUGHTON, Mass. (AP) - A driver charged with attacking a Massachusetts State Police trooper who had pulled him over was held without bail at his arraignment Monday pending, a hearing to determine whether he is a danger to society.
Devin Fuller, 29, was arraigned in Stoughton District Court on charges including assault with intent to murder and assault and battery on a police officer in connection with the confrontation on Route 24 in Randolph on Saturday. He’s accused of pushing the trooper into traffic, punching him and reaching for his service weapon,
The driver refused to leave his car, punched the trooper and reached toward the center console, police said. The trooper, fearing the driver could be retrieving a weapon, pulled him out.
Once outside the vehicle, Fuller allegedly repeatedly struck the trooper before tackling him to the ground and driving his face into the pavement, police said.
Back on his feet, the trooper was allegedly grabbed by Fuller and pushed 15 to 20 feet into oncoming traffic, causing a driver to switch lanes to avoid striking the trooper, authorities said. Fuller and the trooper continued fighting on the ground, police said, as Fuller allegedly tried to grab the trooper s weapon.
