TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Comcast announced Wednesday the creation of six Lift Zones in Tallahassee to give students safe spaces to connect to the internet to participate in virtual classes and complete schoolwork. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit last year, we saw quickly how a lack of Internet access was a major issue for students in our community who suddenly needed to learn virtually instead of in person. Comcast recognized and addressed that need by launching a Lift Zone at Apalachee Ridge Technology Learning Center,â said Christic Henry, Tech Center Coordinator for the Greater Apalachee Ridge Estates Neighborhood Association.
Hancock County Democratic Women to meet May 17
WEIRTON The Hancock County Democratic Women will hold their first meeting of the new year on May 17 at Giovanni’s Family Restaurant, Pennsylvania Avenue, Weirton, at 5 p.m. for those who want dinner.
The business meeting will start at 6 p.m.
Because of social distancing, Giovanni’s is requesting that those who attend should wear a mask and order dinner instead of just water, a news release notes.

STEUBENVILLE The Jefferson County Health District is looking for county help coming up with the final $50,000 needed for its new Wellness on Wheels project.
At Thursday’s meeting of the county commissioners, Health Commissioner Andrew Henry said they’d secured an $85,000 grant from the J.C. Williams Trust in August for the mobile medical unit, and also allocated about $40,000 in COVID-19 funding.
Henry told commissioners they need to plug the funding gap by August or return the grant money.
Wellness on Wheels would take medical services including lab testing, vaccines, wellness screenings and health promotion on the road, reaching Jefferson County residents who otherwise might not be able to access them.
