The Pfizer coronavirus vaccine is in different phases of distribution around the Northwest.
Providence reports it has received almost 4,000 doses. Spokeswoman Beth Hegde says the health system’s highest risk caregivers will be inoculated with it on Friday.
She says the first dose won’t be enough to cover all of the people in that category.
The Idaho Panhandle Health District says it hasn t yet received its first shipment. We will begin reporting on-hand inventory the day vaccine shipments arrive into the state’s system so they are aware of our inventory. This will be done each day, said district spokeswoman Katherine Hoyer. When vaccine is redistributed to healthcare partners, that will be reported to the state as well and they will track it appropriately.

SPOKANE, Wash. The first doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine have arrived in Spokane County and local health care workers will be vaccinated as soon as Friday.
The Spokane Regional Health District would not detail plans to administer the vaccine during a news conference Wednesday, but Providence Health Care released a statement shortly after saying they plan to begin vaccinations on Friday.
Interim health officer Dr. Frank Velazquez said additional vaccines are expected next week.

Vaccines are an important tool in the arsenal to combat a communicable disease such as COVID-19. There are more than 137 vaccines around the world in different stages of clinical and preclinical trials being tested. Three vaccines have captured most of the headlines because of their successful trials within the U.S.’s Emergency Use Authorizations (EUA) process. Pfizer/BioNTech – which received EUA approval and is already being administered to health care professionals (including in Spokane) – and Moderna, a Massachusetts company that partnered with the National Institutes of Health to develop the mRNA-1273 vaccine – which we expect to receive EUA approval on Thursday.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Winter break starts Monday for kids across the Spokane area, but what happens after the new year is still not clear.
With districts phasing in more students, then stopping that altogether, families aren’t sure how to plan ahead.
Some are upset that some kids are back in school while others aren’t.
That’s the case for Xander Merkley, a fourth grader in the Central Valley School District. He’s been stuck at home learning online while his three other siblings get to go to school in person.
