.-The Smithsonian American Art Museum and its branch museum, the Renwick Gallery, reopen to the public Friday, May 14. This is the second reopening of the museum following closures on March 14, 2020 and on Nov. 23, 2020 as a public health precaution due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The museum has negotiated extensions into the summer for its three major exhibitions that were shuttered last fall.

The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC announced today that it will reopen eight of its venues to the public on a staggered schedule in May after a hiatus of more than five months. It is the second reopening after the initial closure in March 2020 due to Covid-19: between last July and October, the Smithsonian had previously reopened eight facilities before closing to the public again on 23 November amid a spike in coronavirus cases.
Visitors must reserve free timed-entry passes for all open locations and observe various safety restrictions such as mask-wearing and maintaining social distancing. Tours and events remain suspended.

One of the nation s oldest continuously operating museums has named Lynda Roscoe Hartigan its first female director in its 221-year history.
The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, announced on Thursday that Hartigan of the Royal Ontario Museum of Toronto would begin as the museum s next CEO on Aug. 23.
