A man who planted a GoPro camera inside an athletic facilityâs restroom in Carthage, Tennessee, is being held at Smith County Jail without bond, according to the Smith County Sheriffâs Office, and is connected to a facility at the center of a similar investigation by the Franklin Police Department.
Andrew Wayne Halford, 32, called his former employers at Smith County Elite Cheerleading and Gymnastics on Jan. 14, according to an affidavit, to confess that he had been planting a hidden GoPro camera inside a facility restroom âfor the purpose of sexual gratification.â
The affidavit states the camera had been hidden in a black backpack on a shelf in the restroom and mentions three victims who were recorded while changing clothes. A 9-year-old girl, 12-year-old girl and 13-year-old girl were all recorded on Oct. 30, 2020, and the 12-year-old girl was again recorded on Dec. 2, 2020.
Man charged after recording device found in bathroom
CARTHAGE, TN (WSMV) The sheriff’s department confirmed a man was arrested for putting a recording device in a bathroom at a cheerleading gym in Smith County and could be connected to a similar incident.
Andrew Halford was unlawful photographing and criminal attempt on Thursday. The arrest of Halford comes after the Smith County Sheriff’s office said a recording device at Smith County Elite Cheerleading and Gymnastics.
The sheriff’s department said Halford was an instructor at Smith County Elite Cheerleading and Gymnastics as well as Premier Athletics in Franklin.
A camera was found inside a girls’ changing and restroom at Premier Athletics. It contained videos of 60 females, mostly minors. Franklin Police detectives believe the suspect had been intermittently staging the camera to capture video in the restroom since September.
