A man in his 20s has died after falling from a 200-metre cliff while climbing a mountain in north Co. Sligo.
The man’s 27-year-old Spanish partner, who was with him, was rescued after being trapped on a dangerous cliff side at the Gleniff Horseshoe in the Dartry Mountains, near Benbulben, on Thursday. It is believed they were going to a nearby cave which has become popular in recent months.
The alarm was raised after 4pm by a hiker who witnessed the young man falling.
Rescuers at the site in County Sligo.
The Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team (SLMRT) was called to the scene to rescue the woman and recover the body of the man. It is understood the deceased was an American national who had been living in Ireland.
