Bayonne is readying for an expansion of its COVID-19 vaccination efforts, according to Bayonne Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Coordinator Junior Ferrante. The city has been vaccinating eligible residents since the first doses of the Moderna vaccine were distributed to hospital personnel at Bayonne Medical Center last December.
According to Ferrante, the city had been receiving only enough doses to vaccinate around 100 residents per day. That number has increased recently as the city’s supply has expanded.
“With the recent modest increases in our dosage allotments, we are now scheduling approximately 120 residents per day,” Ferrante said. As of last week, Ferrante said the city had vaccinated approximately 6,000 residents.

Vaccination efforts will expand in Jersey City, according to Mayor Steven Fulop as the FEMA- backed community vaccine distribution program is scheduled to operate out of local places of worship starting next week.
A new program will begin on March 8 to vaccinate Jersey City residents through places of worship in the Bergen/ Lafayette and Heights neighborhoods.
According to the county, it will help launch the new community vaccine distribution program backed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through a partnership with Governor Phil Murphy and Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop.
The program is set to provide 3,000 first and second doses targeted at under-served communities in Jersey City.

The Hudson County Vaccine Distribution Center in Kearny is prioritizing people who are 75 years old and older this week, officials said, part of a statewide effort to vaccinate the most vulnerable and at-risk populations.
The county’s vaccine appointment portal will only permit appointment times for the 75+ population this week, but in the event slots go unfilled, the portal will be reopened for all other eligible Hudson County residents. More than 300 residents over the age of 75 have already registered to be vaccinated on Monday, 30 of whom are over 90 years old.
