Hannibal bypass study applauded by developers

HANNIBAL â Transportation officials and economic developers are urging the Missouri Department of Transportation to take a fresh look at building the Hannibal expressway that has been sought for nearly 40 years. MoDOT Director Patrick McKenna, recently got letters of support for a $500,000 engineering study of an expressway around the western edge of Hannibal. The bypass would speed travel along U.S. 61/the Avenue of the Saints, while lowering the congestion caused by through traffic and large trucks that now must travel along Hannibal streets. âWhen you look at the fact that the only stoplights from St. Paul to St. Louis along the Avenue of the Saints are the seven in downtown Hannibal, it only makes sense,â said Great River Economic Development Foundation President Marcel Wagner.

Grant paves the way for Hannibal Technology Park The city of Hannibal has earned a $835,000 grant for construction on Lakeside Drive, allowing access to the Hannibal Lakeside Technology Park. The city received notification from the Missouri Department of Transportation that the city’s application for funding through the Governor’s Transportation Cost Share Program has been restored. The city of Hannibal earned the funding last January but allocation was delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic budget uncertainty. The grant money will be used to provide access into the business park and to the Hannibal Board of Public Works substation. The Hannibal Lakeside Technology Park is located a quarter-mile from the four-lane U.S. 36, designated as the Chicago-Kansas City expressway, and three miles from Interstate 72. Moberly Area Community College and Hannibal Regional Medical campus are directly adjacent to the site.

City tends to housekeeping measure regarding former Buckhorn property

HANNIBAL â The Hannibal City Council took care of what one city official termed a âhousekeeping measureâ during its meeting at city hall on Tuesday night when it approved the issuance of a quit claim deed to Zhongding Sealing Parts (USA), which currently owns the former Buckhorn facility that is located in the cityâs West Side Industrial Park. Addressing the council regarding the matter was Corey Mehaffy, executive director of the Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council. âIt is my understanding that the city of Hannibal previously conveyed a 0.7 acre tract of land to the predecessor in title to Zhongding Sealing Parts (USA),â he said. âIt is also my understanding that when Zhongding Sealing Parts (USA) acquired the property years ago the tract in question was omitted from the description contained in the deed. Currently the tract still shows as vested in the city of Hannibal.â
