Police have started towing vehicles just to meet their target
HUBBALLI: Towing of illegally parked vehicles from interior areas has affected the business of roadside eateries. Traffic police are cracking down on illegal parking on narrow roads like Kaladagi Oni near Durgadbail.
According to traders in Kaladagi Oni, there is not much vehicle movement in the area which is famous for street food. Hundreds of people who used to frequent the area on their two wheelers are no longer coming to Kaladagi Oni, fearing their vehicles might get towed, they add.
People whose vehicles are towed away by traffic police from near the eateries are forced to pay Rs 1,650 to get their vehicles back.
HUBBALLI: As the civic authorities are working on restoration of roads in Hubballi city to streamline the traffic movement, the demand for auto stands from auto unions is gaining momentum.
The auto unions have been trying to put pressure on authorities to set up auto stands under the Smart City project since the BRTS project at Hubballi-Dharwad. However, their demand is yet to be met by the authorities.
In Hubballi, Auto Chalakar Hagu Malikar Sangh expressed their ire against the authorities who have neglected the demand of auto unions for years. Based on the suggestions by the officials of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) and police department, the Sangh had proposed 155 auto stands by conducting a detailed study in 2014-15. However, the officials failed to address their grievances or to respond to the long-pending demand.
Elections to the HDMC Council have been delayed by more than a year
HUBBALLI: In the wake of the high court’s observation, wherein both the state government and the Election Commission were asked to expedite the process to hold elections to urban local bodies in North Karnataka, the authorities concerned have kickstarted the process to for the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) polls.
However, there is much work that needs to be completed before the election to HDMC can get under way. Publishing of the list of newly delimited wards, the reservation matrix for the seats in view of the decree that mandates that half the seats be allotted to women are among the preliminary processes that need to be finished before the notification is issued for the polls. Experts fear that these processes will take at least six months.
