Daily COVID Report / Today COVID REPORT: Seven New Cases Confirmed Today, Joint Information Center Says; A Fifth of the County Fully Vaccinated Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center: Humboldt County Public Health and other approved local vaccinators have administered 66,648 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, an increase of 9,322 doses since last week’s report.   Vaccination data has been updated on the Humboldt County Data Dashboard. Some highlights include: 26,085 local residents are fully vaccinated, which represents 19.2% of the county’s total estimated population and about 23.2% of county residents who are 16 and over and currently qualify for vaccination. Nearly 1 in 3 or 31.6% of the county’s total population has received at least one dose of vaccine, meaning they have some protection against the virus.

Public Health Confirms 1 New Case, 1 New Hospitalization

Today s case was reported after laboratories processed 66 samples with a test-positivity rate of 1.5 percent, which with the cases removed, leaves the county case count at an even 3,500. One new hospitalization was also reported today. Earlier today, the state of California updated its COVID-19 risk tiers, it moved Humboldt County into its orange moderate tier, which allows businesses such as restaurants, gyms and movie theaters to increase indoor operations, while allowing others including bowling alleys and family fun centers to open.

The new cases bring the county s cumulative case count to 3,501. Friday, Public Health reported that the state would allocate 4,640 vaccine doses to the county this week more than 2,200 fewer than were received the prior week. In a press release earlier Friday, county officials noted that the number of local residents getting tested for COVID-19 has dropped considerably in recent months. This is worrisome, they said, because testing is critical for identifying and limiting the spread of disease in the community.
