Lumumba loses US$200 000

A LOCAL fuel company lost nearly US$200 000 to its two employees during transactions they entered with other fuel dealers that occurred between November last year and January this year. Platinum Fuels, run by Ace Lumumba Gerald Mutumanje, lost 153 000 litres of diesel worth US$158 520 and US$30 500 cash to its employees Tatenda Maredza (31) and Malcolm Dodo (26). Maredza and Dodo appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court charged with theft of trust property, corruptly concealing a transaction from a principal and unlawful dealing in petroleum. They were not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before magistrate Mrs Barbra Mateko, who remanded them in custody to today for bail application.

Zimbabwe’s largest leisure chain made the offer last year. Under the deal, ASL offered to acquire all issued ordinary shares in DPL based on one ordinary share for every 3,988075946 DPL shares to execute the complete takeover of the property operation. Over 91% of DPL shareholders took up the ASL offer, leaving about 9% clinging to their stock, according to an ASL statement released yesterday, giving remaining shareholders a final chance to agree or face the courts.

The case was postponed after the state received his record of proceedings late. “The record from the Magistrates’ Court was only released yesterday (Thursday) in the afternoon and the State requested a postponement to enable them to file a response,” said Paida Saurombe who is representing Sikhala. “We will file heads of argument this afternoon and we hope to have the State file its response on Monday,” he said. Sikhala was arrested on January 9 at the Harare Magistrate’s Court where he was part of the legal team representing journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who is being accused of publishing falsehoods.

JUST IN: Man arrested for supplying gun used in US$2,7m heist Senior Court Reporter A man whose rifle was used in the US$2,7 million cash heist that occurred along the Harare-Chinhoyi Road, yesterday appeared in court on allegations of supplying the firearm to the gang that pretended it was involved in poaching and promised to return the gun with some meat. Tawanda Chikeya of Granary Phase 3, Harare, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court charged with lending, offering or hiring a firearm to “any person other than a firearm dealer”. Police investigations have established that the round of ammunition fired on January 6 when the US$2,7 million cash heist happened belonged to Chikeya’s rifle.
