Coronavirus: Centre increases Delhi’s oxygen supply after top hospitals flag shortage for second day

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said the Centre has increased Delhi’s quota of oxygen supply to treat coronavirus patients as the city faces unprecedented shortages amid a second wave of the pandemic.
Supplies of medical oxygen in Delhi had been running alarmingly low for the second day on Wednesday, with several top hospitals of the city saying they only had oxygen to last another few hours.
The Haryana government vehemently refuted the allegations, underlining that no one in the administration had hampered anything.

NEW DELHI/ CHANDIGARH: Delhi deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia accused the Haryana government on Wednesday of blocking medical oxygen supply to Delhi, where several hospitals scrambled to save lives of coronavirus patients amid its shortage for the second consecutive day.
The Haryana government vehemently refuted the allegations, underlining that no one in the administration had hampered anything. Addressing a press conference, Sisodia said the AAP government had been demanding that the Centre increase Delhi s quota of oxygen from 378 metric tonnes to 700 metric tonnes.

The action comes in the wake of one oxygen tanker that was heading to Faridabad hospital via Delhi and was looted by the Delhi govt a day earlier.

Amid complaints of lack of liquid medical oxygen and subsequent black-marketing of it, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said the state has decided to provide police protection to all tankers carrying medical-grade oxygen.
The action comes in the wake of one oxygen tanker that was heading to Faridabad hospital via Delhi and was looted by the Delhi government a day earlier.
