Major upgrade works at Altona’s foreshore will provide easier access for locals and visitors, improvements to marquee Pier Street to allow for festivals and community events, and better protection for the beach.
Minister for Suburban Development Shaun Leane today announced details of the Altona Foreshore Revitalisation project that will deliver a new main beach entry and promenade, shared bike and walking trails, a raised seawall, two beach access ramps, and new viewing and rest spots.
The $12.9 million project is supported by $4.4 million from the Andrews Labor Government’s
Suburban Revitalisation Program and $1.4 million from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning towards the upgrade of the seawall.

Public Statement from Chair Administrator Ms Lydia Wilson
The City of Whittlesea welcomes the Victorian Government’s appointment of Mr Chris Eddy to the Panel of Administrators, joining Chair Administrator Ms Lydia Wilson and Administrator Ms Peita Duncan.
Mr Eddy commenced his role as Administrator on Wednesday 12 May 2021. He brings with him a wealth of local government experience including his most recent appointment as Interim CEO at LGPro (VIC) from July 2020-March 2021.
For 13 years, Mr Eddy served at Hobsons Bay City Council including almost six years as CEO (2012-2018).
Ms Wilson said she was pleased to welcome Mr Eddy to the panel, acknowledging his depth of experience in the sector and broad range of skills.
