Fewer businesses will have to pay the Hampstead BID levy if it is voted back in later this year

The bosses of the Hampstead Village Business Improvement District (BID) have released the business plan they hope will persuade local firms to back the controversial scheme for another five years.
A vote will be held in June on the scheme, which charges a levy on traders and aims to promote business in the area.
The document includes detailed spending plans for the next five years and also explains the BID – which has previously been challenged in court – is also planning to raise the business rates threshold, meaning fewer businesses would have to pay.

Residents in Church Row were left furious on two occasions in April when construction vehicles damaged parked cars in the narrow street.
It is understood three vehicles have been written off across two incidents - on April 19 and April 27.
David Milne of the Church Row Association (CRA) has written to Charles Rudgard of Holly Walk Developments on several occasions to complain about the issue.
He said the manner in which HGVs had been used in Church Row was unacceptable .

After a month in Brazil, arriving back in Hampstead in March 2020 to find only one grapefruit and four tins of oxtail soup on the shelves of Sainsburys was, admittedly, a bit of a shocker.
Naturally, I decided to live out a sort of dystopian-Chernobyl-cum-World-War-II-ration-book fantasy in order to cheer myself up. After all, seeking out loo roll and pasta at black-market prices can be fun. And might not steamed-up glasses and inhaling my own CO2, somehow, become an opportunity for growth? A chance to slow down and become a human being rather than a human-doing.
