The project was met with praise by politicians, sports fans, and longtime locals. Yet a year later, as CultureMap reported, that plan ended as Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo questioned if the $105 million plan, “is fiscally responsible, that it will actually, with the funds committed to it, that it will actually get us to a point where the Astrodome is self-sustaining.”

January 29, 2021 By Waterways Journal Houston businessman Ric Campo was appointed chairman of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority January 11 by the City of Houston and Harris County Commissioners Court. Campo, chairman and CEO of Camden Property Trust, said he was honored and humbled to be appointed to the position.  “The best is yet to come for our region, and our port will help drive us into a bright future,” Campo said.  Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo presided over the meeting, which was held at Port Houston’s executive offices. By state statute, the chairman of the port commission is appointed by the governing bodies of the city of Houston and Harris County Commissioners Court in a joint session.

Several tenants and members of the Texas Organizing Project spoke Tuesday morning on the steps of Houston City Hall in front of a pile of furniture. “By the grace of friends and family is where I’m at, and I have it better than a lot of others,” said Ben, a tenant who declined to give his last name. “I have no address right now. Let me put it that way.”
