HALIFAX Many Nova Scotians spent Friday morning digging out and cleaning up after a late fall snowstorm blasted part of the province Thursday. A low-pressure system passed south of Nova Scotia on Thursday, bringing slick and snow-packed roads to parts of the province. One student was on a school bus when it went into a ditch Friday morning in East Lawrencetown, N.S. Despite being a little shaken up, the child and the driver are otherwise OK. We always try to do our best on snowy days and this morning, this strip hasn t been plowed a lot, said bus driver Lily Navarro.

Schools in the municipality of East Hants and in the South Shore regional education centre were planning to let out early due to the expected weather. The question is how far east will this snow get, said NEWS 95.7 weather specialist John Wilson. Halifax will get it about noon, about 5 cm this afternoon but maybe 10 cm more tonight. If the storm gets far enough, we could get a fair bit out of this.

Friday, December 18th 2020, 11:00 am - A powerful winter blast has left parts of Nova Scotia digging out of 20+ cm of snow.
While the impacts were far more forgiving than the blockbuster storm that shut down much of the U.S. Northeast, parts of the Maritimes were still faced with quickly accumulating snow and difficult travel as the stateside system passed south of Nova Scotia on Thursday.
With the timing of the system and the heaviest snow falling through the afternoon and evening hours, schools across Halifax remained open on Thursday. No luck for a snow day on Friday either, though there was a two hour delay to start times, as crews continued clean-up efforts.
