NBC Will Not Air 2022 Golden Globes, HFPA Must Correct Their Issues

NBC announced a short time later it wouldn’t host the annual awards show, citing HFPA’s “lack of diversity” and not its lowest ratings ever as the reason.
“We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform,” a statement from NBC to CNN read. “However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes.”
HBO and Warner Media have cut ties with the organization until sweeping reforms are enacted, LA Times reported. Netflix and Amazon have taken similar action, according to Fox News.

Amid growing pressure on the Hollywood Foreign Press Association from studios, stars and large swaths of the film industry, NBC said Monday that will not air the Golden Globes in 2022, putting in doubt the viability of one of Hollywood’s oldest and most-watched award shows.
In a statement, the network said it believes the press association which is facing possible boycotts over the inclusiveness of its membership from Netflix, Warner Bros. and many Hollywood actors is committed to reform.
“However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right,” the network said. “As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.”

The HFPA is a group of 87 Los Angeles-based journalists who work for foreign media outlets. It has been under fire from Hollywood for months. In addition to the concerns around diversity, it also has been accused of impropriety when it comes to how the organization reports on the entertainment industry.
