The Hollywood Foreign Press Association overwhelming approved a set of sweeping reforms on Thursday that will remake the embattled organization that votes on the Golden Globes, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
In the voice vote held over Zoom, 74 of the 87 members voted to approve a proposal that would increase its membership by 50% in the next 18 months, appoint professional executive leadership and hold new board elections this fall. Three members voted no, four voted to abstain and eight were absent, according to a knowledgeable individual.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the annual Golden Globe Awards, approved a sweeping list of operational and structural changes today aimed at addressing a lack of diversity among their ranks, including an absence of any Black members.
The HFPA board shared the overhaul plan with the organization s rank-and-file on Monday, ahead of the Thursday vote. Among the changes on tap is the addition of 20 members this year, with a focus on adding Black journalists to the group s ranks.
The plan also calls for a 50% membership increase over the next 18 months, with an accompanying loosening of membership requirements to open the organization to a wider array of journalists.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The membership of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group that hands out the annual Golden Globe awards for television and film, on Thursday approved widespread changes designed to diversify its ranks and address ethics complaints.
Steps include hiring a chief diversity officer, emphasizing recruitment of Black journalists, and widening the pool of potential applicants for the group of foreign entertainment journalists.
The organization also voted to add at least 20 new members to the current 87 this year and to expand its roster by 50% over the next 18 months.
