More than 19,500 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered so far in Douglas County | News, Sports, Jobs - Lawrence Journal-World: news, information, headlines and events in Lawrence, Kansas

Data from four local health organizations showed that more than 19,500 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in Douglas County as of Thursday. Altogether, data from the four distributors LMH Health, Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, Heartland Community Health Center and Haskell Indian Health Center showed that 19,568 first doses and 7,411 second doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered. That’s an increase of 2,810 first doses and 2,916 second doses since the county last reported vaccine distribution information to the Journal-World on Feb. 19.

A local health center that serves American Indians and Alaska Natives is further along in the COVID-19 vaccine distribution process than Douglas County as a whole, due to the smaller population size the facility is serving. Haskell Indian Health Center is now serving all American Indians and Alaska Natives who are old enough to qualify to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Capt. Kelly Battese, the CEO of Haskell Indian Health Center, spoke to the Journal-World by phone this week about the center’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts. As of Wednesday, 3,400 doses of vaccine had been distributed at the center, 2415 Massachusetts St. Of those 3,400 doses, 2,022 were first doses and 1,378 were second doses.

Story updated at 5:23 p.m. Friday Data from four local health organizations showed that nearly 12,000 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in Douglas County as of Thursday. Karrey Britt, spokesperson for Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, sent data compiled from reports by LMH Health, Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, Haskell Indian Health Center and Heartland Community Health Center. The data shows that these four organizations have administered 11,892 of the 13,840 first doses they have received, or 85.9%. The four organizations have also administered 1,716 of the 9,180 second doses they have received, or 18.7%.
