the fact that whether or not we are able to, you know, we had one shot with an f-16 that was unable on the first shot with a side winder these are very complex, you know, very complex mission, again, we are not trained or are they designed f-16 or f-22 to go after a slow mover 5 or 10 knott balloon. can i tell you at the weapon school or certainly at top gun we don t train, this isn t in our playbook. jesse: you don t train on popping balloons. no we don t. jesse: i would agree. this is a significant threat. and it s a wake-up call for americans. the fact that the chinese are operating this global spy campaign through balloons. they are in a region, at least that first balloon shot down on the 4th of february by an f-22 that was operating up around 65,000 feet. that s in a near space regime that i believe the chinese are trying to exploit. we don t operate up there very much. we have got some reconnaissance aircraft u2 and hawk unmanned
violence planned, obviously. you know, we ll never know exactly what it is that he had planned. but i think just based on what he did at michigan state, it s pretty safe to assume that more people would have died had he not taken his own life, had police not been able to locate him, and really cause him to take his own life. so you know, again, this is an example of an individual who should not have access to firearms. there are millions of people in this country, millions of firearms. most people are responsible gun owners, but guns still fall into the hands of the wrong people. we just refuse as a society to sit down and talk about it and try to come up with something that won t be 100% effective, but it will be better than it is now. 67 already this year. it s only the 14th of february. i can almost guarantee you that that number will be in the hundreds before the year is out, unfortunately. because we just won t do anything, and it s just going to continue and go on and on and

but america needs a strong leader to step forward. i think some of our republican colleagues are being, at the very minimum, premature, and often just very political. there s a lot of information to assess, there s a lot of information to recover, and the administration is on top of this and has done a very, very good job. earlier, the us military said it had recovered an important sensor and other electronics as well as large structural sections of the suspected chinese surveillance balloon shot down earlier this month. they ll now undergo intensive analysis to determine their exact capabilities and purpose. the balloon was the first of four objects in north american airspace this month. the balloon recovered today was downed on the 4th of february, off the coast of south carolina. it spent three days drifting across the country after it was first spotted in montana. the three other objects were shot down on friday, saturday and sunday over northern alaska, yukon, canada, and lake h
