This year, the U.S. market has been presented with no fewer than seven all-new trucks from domestic and foreign brands. The two that won’t be featured in the following video are the F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T, which are quicker over the quarter mile than the remaining five pickups.
As expected of The Fast Lane, a brand-new Tundra has joined the TFL fleet. This red-painted Limited with the TRD Off-Road Package is the first 2022 Toyota Tundra sold in the United States according to managing editor Andre Smirnov, which makes this pickup truck all the more special.
Concomitantly with The Fast Lane taking delivery of the first 2022 model year Tundra in the United States, the peeps at Toyota have confirmed the start of production in San Antonio. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas received $391 million two years ago to prepare the assembly plant for the new Tundra, pushing the cumulative investment to more than $3.1 billion.
The full-size Tundra was never a big seller, and Toyota doesn’t appear to be interested in rivaling the Big Three in Detroit with the latest model either. Now available to configure, the half-ton pickup is available with V6-only powertrains and considerably higher sticker prices than its domestic rivals.
