A 60-year old man from the North East was airlifted to hospital after he slipped on Helvellyn. Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team attended the incident on Saturday afternoon after the man injured his ankle while traversing Striding Edge. A Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team spokesman said: Due to the remoteness of the location, a decision was made to request assistance from HM Coastguard and a rescue helicopter was scrambled from Prestwick. The casualty was assessed by a team first aider and his ankle was splinted. 16 team members were involved in the rescue and the man was eventually flown to the Cumberland Infirmary, where a fracture was confirmed in his right ankle.
