Comelec achieves 1 5M target voter sign-up applications

(File photo) MANILA - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said it has already achieved its target of at least 1.5 million voter registrants, with over a week before the registration deadline. Based on its latest figures as of Jan. 22, the poll body said a total of 1,537,872 applications have been filed in all registration sites in connection with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) set this October. Earlier, the Comelec projected that some 1.5 million to 2 million applicants will register during the period which started on Dec. 12, 2022 and will run until Jan. 31, 2023. The number of new registrants include 442,330 voters aged 15 to 17 years old; 397,323 voters aged 18 to 30 years old; and 86,818 voters aged 31 years old and above. In particular, the task force expressed concern about the rise in Covid-19 from 220 active cases on July 16 to 272 fresh cases as of July 24, based on the vaccination cluster's report. DSWD-3 assures ample standby supplies in times of calamity

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga - The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Central Luzon (DSWD-3) regional office here assured on Monday that it has enough standby food and non-food stockpiles in times of disaster or calamity. DSWD-3 Regional Director Marites Maristela said the agency is ready to provide resource augmentation to local government units (LGUs), particularly during rainy or typhoon season. She said although Tropical Storm Agaton has no direct effect on the region, the DSWD-3 has prepared the resources to ensure that they would be ready to help those who would be in need. "We want to make sure that the agency has sufficient stockpiles to respond to any calamities," Maristela said in an interview.
