Lucky Lekgwathi unveils Grootman restaurant opening in Soweto

Apr 19, 2021 - 07:45 pm By KickOff Lifestyle Orlando Pirates legend Lucky Lekgwathi has broadened his business portfolio as he continues his success off the field post-retirement. Lekgwathi is widely known for his exploits on the pitch with Pirates between 2002 and 2014, during which he captained the club to a famous double treble. The 44-year-old former defender has now taken his success into business, having already started his own clothing label called Fantastic 14 , in honour of his past jersey number. He is now just days away from opening a flagship restaurant in Kliptown, Soweto, called Grootman by Lucky Lekgwathi , with a media launch set for Wednesday, 21 April.

The Lamontville Golden Arrows defender, who is among this season’s best players, was part of the club’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) side that won the 2015/16 campaign and earned themselves a trip to the home of Total Football.  Sibisi spent three seasons with the MDC side, coached by Vusi Vilakazi. In those three seasons they won the MDC twice, earning trips to Spain and the Netherlands where they played several friendlies and were trained by Barcelona and Dutch legend, Johan Neeskens. But it’s the 2016 trip to the Netherlands that left a huge mark on Sibisi.
