victim is pleading for her life. prosecutors said she names her killer in the recording, but it was not enough for a guilty verdict. aaron spriggs accused in the death of his girlfriend will soon be a free man. it is sad that she shepard tremendously she suffered tremendously. it was a shocking murder. vans and friends and family were stunned. somebody s life was lost. obviously they are devastated. prosecutors presented police reports and an audio tape record it in which maris wilkerson cleats for her life. authorities say it later says, you can hear the audio tape of the victim begging out for her life. the defense says they called the evidence garbage. she said, i don t want to die. hearing the evidence as it was presented, it was not there. the fact that they were last seen in public arguing was not enough to convict. that is our system. it took the jury 5.5 hours to reach its verdict. but families were in the courtroom. the wilkerson family
it could happen to me. but when it happens to someone within our community, it hits home. reporter: and now new reports have surfaced about ex- boyfriend george shuglees violent past. very, very upsetting. i wake up every mourning now and i can t imagine how her mom is going through this. reporter: sources tell the washington post that last year the boyfriend allegedly beat a sleeping teammate bruising his face after a night of partying. he believed the lacrosse player had kissed his then girlfriend love after walking her home from a bar. she was sweet. loving and didn t deserve it. a lot of times we don t think how alcohol and drugs and going out can affect us. reporter: alleged alcohol- fueled violence against love and even a female police officer who used a taser to try to subdue him. funeral mass and burial are set for saturday morning. love s friends including those from the uva lacrosse team will take a break from studying for their final exams to attend.
