The Texas A&M women’s golf team won an instant classic when it defeated No. 4 South Carolina, 3-2, to send the Aggies to the SEC title match after Blanca Fernández García-Poggio won the clinching point in 23 holes at the par-72, 6,331-yard Greystone Golf & Country Club – Legacy Course on Saturday.
Clemson, S.C Clemson junior Annabelle Pancake defeated Madison Hinson-Tolechard of Australia and Oklahoma State University, 4&3 on Thursday to advance to the final 16 of the United States Amateur golf tournament at Chambers Bay in University Place Washington.Pancake will take on Catherine Rao of Camarillo, California, later on Thursday afternoon and early evening. Rao will be a freshman on the Princeton golf team this coming fall.Clemson rising senior Savannah Grewal lost her second round match to Mia Hammond, a high school golfer from Ohio, i-up when Hammond made a birdie on the par five 18th hole. Grewal had overcome a 3-up lead by Hammond through 12 holes by winning holes 13, 14 and 15. The two players tied the 16th and 17th holes before Hammond won the 18th..Pancake and Grewal were the first two Clemson women’s golfers to win a round of match play at the US. Annabelle Pancake’s record setting run at the 122nd United States Amateur at Chambers Bay (University Place, Washington) ended Thursday evening when Catherine Rao, a freshman on the Princeton women’s golf team, defeated the Clemson junior 4&3.Pancake had become the first Clemson women’s golfer to reach the final 16 of the United States Amateur by defeating Abbey Daniel of Mississippi State on Wednesday, and Madison Hinson-Tolechard of Oklahoma State on Thursday morning.The third round match began with the two players tying the first three holes. That was not indicative of the remainder of the match as there were only two tied holes over the last 12 holes. Rao, a native of California, won holes four and five to take a 2-up lead.Pancake, who had not trailed at any point in her first two matches, won the par four seventh hole with a par. It appeared Pancake was going to tie the match on the eighth hole when Rao hit a poor first putt that rolled back

In what must be considered the finest day of amateur play in Clemson women’s golf history, Annabelle Pancake and Savannah Grewal both advanced to the final 32 with first-round match play victories at the 122nd United States Women’s Amateur championship at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, Washington.After never having an active roster player win a match at the US Women’s Amateur, two Clemson women’s golfers gained victory on the same day. Former Clemson players Ashlan Ramsey and Lauren Stephenson both had won matches previous, but both wins took place before they were seniors in high school.Pancake and Grewal won their matches in strong fashion, as neither trailed at any point in their match.
