EMMETSBURG GRADUATION 2021 —
After a year of unknowns and uncertainties, the seniors of Emmetsburg High School would graduate Sunday afternoon in a commencement ceremony held in the high school gymnasium. Led by Junior Class Marshals Dominique Biliran and Tyler Stokes, the seniors would take their seats among family and friends gathered all together for one of the first times in a long while. After enjoying a senior class video made by Mrs. Schany and Ms. Herrig, Taylor Steinkamp, Senior Class President and commencement’s Mistress of Ceremonies took the podium to welcome attendees and the Class of 2021. Among the speakers at this year’s ceremony were Salutatorians Cade Jacobson and Kady Traub, and Valedictorian Abbie Schany. The day would also include performances by the high school concert band, as well as “Seasons of Love” sung by the concert choir. EHS Principal Tracie Christensen, along with Darren Hanna, Superintendent, and Jane Hoyman, Board of Education President, would award diplomas.

The Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA) released the 2020-21 All-District basketball teams on Friday, naming Emmetsburg senior Abbie Schany among the select athletes representing Northwest Iowa in Class 2A.
Schany, the daughter of B.J. and Jill Schany of Emmetsburg, recently wrapped up her senior season in Hartley following the Class 2A Regional Championship matchup against Rock Valley. Schany put up 370 points during the 2020-21 season and scored an impressive 1,103 total career points as a Lady E-Hawk. Her aggressive run on the court also netted 128 rebounds and 44 steals as a senior.

The Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks will head to the Class 2A Regional Championship Wednesday following last week’s big wins over Sioux Central and Central Lyon.
On Tuesday, Feb. 16, the Lady E-Hawks would earn a dominant 62-33 victory over the Sioux Central Rebels at Emmetsburg High School in Class 2A Region 7 first round action. Taking an aggressive offensive stance early in the contest, the Lady E-Hawks would get the early lead over the Rebels. By the end of the second quarter, Emmetsburg would score 26 to Sioux Central’s 15. The girls would put in a stellar second half performance both offensively and defensively, outscoring the Rebels 36-18 to close out the game.
