The Eastern Illinois women’s soccer team has officially wrapped up non-conference play as it will take on its first Ohio Valley Conference opponent, SIUE, Thursday at 1 p.m. at Lakeside Field. The Panthers are 1-4-2 overall and are on a two-game losing streak under first year head coach Dirk Bennett. One of the non-conference wins.
The female Panther of the Week is going to fifth year forward Zenaya Barnes from the women’s soccer team. Four minutes into the first half, freshman forward Abby Reinl found Barnes and passed her the ball. Barnes kicked the ball diagonally into the goal with her right foot to give the Panthers an early 1-0.
The EIU Panthers got their first win under new head coach Dirk Bennett as the Panthers beat the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field. The three goals by the Panthers were scored by freshmen forwards Alex Tetteh (22), Katiebeth May (5), and Abby Reinl (6). Goalkeeper Lexi Prusow saved three.
