Surprise by the pushback theyre receiving about this appointment as of right now. >> which is surprising in and of itself. you asked the president if he wants whitaker to rein in robert mueller during that gaggle. i want to play for everyone what he said. >> do you want him to rein in robert mueller? >> what a stupid question that is. what a stupid question. but i watch you a lot. you ask a lot of stupid questions. >> put aside the fact of just the relationship that he likes to take with reporte...

Constraining that investigation. he said it here on cnn. officials are allowed to have personal opinions. why is that disqualifying? >> i just think it shows a bias that is something we should be deeply concerned about. we need to let the mueller investigation go forward. hes been on record talking about his concerns about it. and he actually described ways he would shrink the budget and sort of starve the investigation. it has to go forward. let the rule of law, you know, lead. and i just think...

Investigation, a critic of robert mueller, was he being placed there in order to rein in the mueller investigation? something he had suggested in the past would be a good strategy for president trump. so i wanted to know whether president trump thought that was something that whitaker had the power to do or ought to do, whether he thought whitaker should leave the russia investigation alone. the president just didnt answer the question. he criticized me. but i think we still want to know the ans...

Press. >> remember when he attacked cecelia vega. same darn thing, the way he reacts to a woman asking a tough question. an african-american woman asking a tough question. you can see a different reaction in how the president reacts. >> if the presidents supporters can take off their partisan glasses for a moment, this is not a red or blue issue at all. >> coming up for us, the president slamming first lady michelle obama when said she trump put her family in danger when he was peddling the birt...

It -- shouldnt it be an easy one for a president to answer? >> it is fair, it is easy, it is the question of the day, because why he picked whitaker is important. i think the gentleman doth protest too much. how many times did he say he didnt know matt whitaker? thats simply not true. number one. number two, its not credible because this, to donald trump, the attorney general is the most important position right now, because what bothers him more than anything else in the world, except maybe imm...

That in a different -- the national labor relations board. we dont want to get too wonky, but theres an example of it being a problem before. >> look, it could be a problem. and that is a concern with people in the department of justice. there are career people there. there are senior level people that have been placed there by the white house that are concerned. its on all levels. really, its going to be interesting to see down the line who meets with whitaker. does the fbi director meet with h...
