Reports from Kaduna,  Bauchi, Adamawa, Kwara and a number of other state chapters revealed bitter rancour and resistance among different power blocs and party chieftains to control the machinery of the APC .

Kano Assembly speaker, majority leader resign, may join PDP

Punch Newspapers Sections Tukur Muntari, and Ted Odogwu  The Speaker Kano State House of Assembly and Majority leader, Abdulazeez Garba-Gafasa and Kabiru Hassan Dashi have resigned. The Speaker in a letter titled ‘Notification of Resignation’ dated December 14th and addressed to the Clerk and Permanent Secretary announced his resignation. The l Press Secretary to the speaker, Nura Bala Ajingi, confirmed the resignation of the two officials to newsmen on Tuesday. Garba-Garfasa in his resignation letter said his decision was based on his personal reasons, and appreciated the support of all the members during his stay in the position. However, the majority leader, in his one-paragraph letter of resignation addressed to the Clerk, did not state the reasons for his action.

The resignation was confirmed to newsmen on Tuesday in Kano, by the Press Secretary to the speaker, Nura Bala Ajingi. Garba Garfasa in the resignation letter said his decision was based on his personal reasons, and appreciated the support of all the members during his stay in the position. Meanwhile the majority leader, in a one-paragraph letter addressed to the Clerk did not state the reason for his resignation. However, the Clerk of the assembly, Abdullahi Alfa has confirmed to newsmen that he has received the resignation letter. A new speaker and a new House leader are expected to emerge Tuesday during plenary.

Garba-Gafasa tendered his resignation in a letter dated December 14 to the house clerk and permanent secretary. He said his decision was for personal reasons. The house majority leader, Kabiru Hassan Dashi has also resigned, but in a single-paragraph letter, he gave no reason. Their resignation, it is believed, follows plans to have them impeached on Tuesday. It was gathered that by early Tuesday, 35 of 40 legislators had already appended their signatures to remove both the speaker and the majority leader. A house member anonymously told a news outlet that both men did not serve the interest of lawmakers. “We moved against them for their lack of capacity to negotiate the welfare of the House before the governor,” he said
