LAYO sets trend for others to emulate - Eastern Mirror

Our CorrespondentKohima, June 1 (EMN): Emerging from what it was earlier known for its notoriety and anti-social activities two decades ago, the Lower Agri ward in Kohima is now thriving and transformed as one of the peaceful colonies in Kohima. This was made known during the 25th anniversary celebration of Lower Agri Youth Organisation (LAYO) held at Penta Point on Wednesday. “Once upon a time, the colony was tagged as the “atrocious” and “worst” colony with youth involved in substance abuse and other anti-social elements. This had led to the formation of the colony youth body for peaceful co-existence,” stated LAYO president, Abel Assumi. With the consent from the ward chairman, the youth organisation was formed on June 1, 1997. Under the body, it brought all the youths together irrespective of caste, colour, and religion but unity. Today, things have changed for the better and many activities were taken up, Assumi added. Speaking on the theme ‘Youth with integrity,’ professor at the Nagaland University, Dr. GT Thong, stated that integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is around and youth have to live with high standards of integrity.
