Kintore primary has secured a Wellbeing Award for Schools (WAS) which is a scheme run by Optimus Education in partnership with the National Children’s Bureau. It sets a national standard for promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing. Kintore is the first school in Aberdeenshire to have received recognition. The award highlights the school’s efforts to ensure emotional wellbeing is a responsibility for all, to actively promote positive mental health among staff and pupils.

Fifteen-year-old Keiran Cheyne, who suffers from anxiety, has found the latest lockdown tough. His Aberdeen City Council social worker, a Dons fan, mentioned his plight to a few other fans who immediately rallied round to help the family. They got in touch with AFC Community Trust who organised for a bag of club goodies to be delivered to the Hazlehead Academy pupil. The contents included merchandise which had been donated to the Trust from AberDNA members, along with a virtual season ticket so Keiran can live-stream AFC home games.

Aberdeen s Covid-19 emergency appeal helps thousands during pandemic Aberdeen’s Covid-19 emergency appeal has made a significant contribution to enable local charities help thousands who are struggling during the pandemic, according to a new report. An impact report carried out by Aberdeen City Council on behalf of the Lord Provost s Charitable Trust, who set up the appeal, revealed 19,405 people have been supported, 29,649 food parcels delivered and £68,310 for 941 emergency grants were issued. Since its launch in May the emergency appeal has handed out 60 grants to 42 local registered charities and has raised more than £300,000 from members of the public. Lord Provost Barney Crockett said: “Thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses we have been able to give much needed financial support to local charities helping local people in desperate need due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
