Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi’s upcoming new airport terminal now has the emirate’s largest solar-powered car park, which will save 5,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.
The completion of the three-megawatt sola photovoltaic (PV) facility was today announced by Abu Dhabi Airports, which owns and operates all five airports in the emirate, and Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company. Located in the short-term car park at Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Midfield Terminal, the structure has 7,542 solar panels, which will generate energy to power the car park, with excess energy fed to other sections of the airport. Masdar will operate and maintain the car park for a 25-year period under a lease agreement.
