Data to the robot. it has accelerometers measuring the linear acceleration of the racket through three dimensions and gyros which measure the rotations of the racket in three dimensions, because when you hit a shot you are moving the raquet quite fast and you or i cannot really track that, but the accelerometers that we have on here, send data about 1000 times a second, we check it and we process it, using some machine learning and some ai. there is a more serious side to this. sport is not the ...

Researchers here and at herriet watt university are exploring how robotics could improve players* motivation and performance in between sessions with their coach. during their solo practice, a motion tracking sensor attached to the squash racquet translates the players data to the robot. it has accelerometers measuring the linear acceleration of the racket through three dimensions and gyros which measure the rotations of the racket in three dimensions, because when you hit a shot you are movi...

In later life. these kinds of impacts arent just a concern for seasoned pros, they can affect anyone, professionals, amateurs and especially children and teenagers. the effects of sub—concussion is far greater in children. you can see it in severe cases. the recovery time is far, far longer. but edinburgh—based company hit has come up with a piece of technology they think might tackle the problem by measuring how much impact an athlete sustains to the head when taking part in sport. i went t...

I went to their lab at heriot—watt university to see their final stages of testing. and what were doing is were basically calibrating the accelerometer thats in the back of the head in the hit device to give us a really good indication of kind of how sensitive the accelerometer is and if we need to maybe alter that or if its all good to go. would that be kind of the equivalent of the sort of impacts people might be getting in a real—world situation, or are you sort of going beyond that? so w...
