Despite a majority of students saying yes to most fees, the mandatory Student Life Centre (SLC) fee increase failed with 59% opposition. The AMS expresses concerns about funding for its operations in the revitalized JDUC. However, students approved new optional fees for organizations like Queens Black Academic Society, Social Issues Commission’s Menstrual Equity Project, Proactive Minds, and Queen’s Dental Aid Network.

The candidates making up team TBD are counting on passion, not experience, to win students’ votes in the upcoming AMS election.

The AMS Social Issues Commission (SIC) dissolved Committee Against Racial and Ethnic Discrimination (CARED), Education on Queer Issues Project (EQuiP), and Accessibility Queen’s (AQ) for the year.

When Madia McGowan, ArtSci ’24, arrived at Queen’s in 2020, she saw it as a “big adjustment”—but not in the way most students do. It’s not unusual for incoming students to see the shift to university as a turning point in their lives, but for McGowan, who was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when she was 10 years old, that transition symbolized something more.
