The Editors Guild of India on Friday said it was deeply disturbed by the draconian amendments to the Information Technology Rules that gave the government absolute power to determine fake news.

In January, the ministry introduced draft amendments to the IT Rules that said that news identified as fake or false by the Press Information Bureaus fact check unit needed to be removed from social media platforms.
