BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A federal grand jury returned a guilty verdict on a man accused of organizing armed robberies in Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina with one of those robberies resulting in a homicide here.
Monday, a federal jury in Bowling Green returned a verdict convicting Jorge Santos Caballero Melgar, 36, formerly of Nashville, Tenn., of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery; conspiracy to use and carry firearms during and in relation to crimes of violence; interference with commerce by robbery in the March 17, 2017, robbery of La Placita in Bowling Green, Kentucky; murder through the use of a firearm during and in relation to the commission of a crime of violence; and illegal reentry into the United States after a previous deportation, Acting United States Attorney Michael A. Bennett said in a release.
