A high school teacher in the US state of Florida has been fired after he assigned students to write their own obituaries ahead of an active shooter drill. Jeffrey Keene, a veteran teacher who was hired at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando in January, told a local Fox subsidiary that he was dismissed without explanation.
Mr Keene stated that after hearing about the drill on Monday, he believed the students' obituaries would encourage them to reflect on their lives in the event of a school shooter.
The teacher recalls telling the class of 35 students that “this isn’t a way to upset you or anything like that,” adding, “If you can’t talk real to them, then what’s happening in this environment?”
