The Madhya Pradesh High Court has sentenced a man to undergo imprisonment for a period of ten days for making reckless allegations of corruption against a district judge and circulating it on.
Rampur (UP)/IBNS/UNI: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former cabinet minister Mohammad Azam Khan was on Wednesday acquitted by an MP-MLA court in a three-year-old hate speech case in which he was sentenced to three years imprisonment by a lower court, the defence counsel said.
The accused had lodged a complaint before the High Court levelling allegations of corruption against a judicial officer. The words used by the accused in the complaint amounted to criminal contempt, the High Court held.
Earlier this month, a Delhi court had issued summons to the BBC, the Wikimedia Foundation, and the Internet Archive after BJP leader Binay Kumar Singh filed a defamation suit, seeking a permanent restraint order against the organisations from broadcasting the BBC documentary.
