Despite layoffs at major companies, small private companies are hiring. Robust job numbers are one big reason that we're not in a recession yet.

Industries like hotels and railroads are far from recovery. Insider looked at which groups are still below their employment level from February 2020.

Inflation is falling, hiring is still robust, and all of that means that a looming downturn may never actually come this year.

The consume-price index was up 6.5% in December from the same time a year ago, well below November's 7.1% rate.

The Consumer Price Index climbed 6.5% year-over-year in December. But price growth was flat over the last 3 months.

It's the first time the tech giants haven't made the list, which is determined by employee feedback, in over a decade.

With the December data on employment, you get the best of both worlds: a good labor market and a reduced chance of a recession.

In addition to the added payrolls, the US unemployment rate fell in December, changing from 3.6% to 3.5%.

WSJ said a "richcession" could be on the way, as the wealthy get hit with layoffs and stock losses. Meanwhile, wages for poorer Americans are rising.
