County office building in need of emergency repair | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com Officials cut the ribbon in November 2018 on the Fulton County Office Building front entrance renovation project grand opening in Johnstown. (The Leader-Herald/Michael Anich) JOHNSTOWN The fairly new front entrance to the Fulton County Office Building has to undergo emergency limestone repairs thanks to some winter weather problems. County Highway and Facilities Superintendent Mark Yost recently reported on the issue to the Board of Supervisors’ Public Works Committee at the building. The committee authorized over $14,000 in repairs with final approval likely Monday by the full board. In 2018, the main entrance to the County Office Building, 223 W. Main St., was reconstructed. The $479,000 project also included a new handicap accessible ramp.

Officials go after Cuomo's powers | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN A Fulton County Board of Supervisors committee on Monday passed a proposed resolution calling on the state Legislature to curtail Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s emergency order authority. “There’s a big call for that,” said county Administrative Officer Jon Stead. The Public Safety Committee took the action, which is subject to final approval March 8 by the full board. Voting no was Democratic Gloversville 1st Ward Supervisor Marie Born. Stead told the Public Safety Committee that since supervisors discussed taking this action weeks ago, the subject of Cuomo’s emergency orders have gained “more notoriety.” “I think it’s time,” Stead said.

Officials give nod to tourism funds | News, Sports, Jobs

JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Board of Supervisors on Monday authorized county expenditures for area tourism. Board action came during the monthly session, which was live streamed via Zoom to the public. “Maybe we can be in person for our March meeting,” said county Administrative Officer Jon Stead. “That’s certainly our goal.” The board passed a resolution directing County Treasurer Terry Blodgett to remit $61,807 in a county matching funds allocation for the 2021 “I Love NY” Tourism Grant to the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce. The allocation is effective immediately. The chamber received notification from the state it may not allocate 2021 tourism funds, so the chamber is counting on the county share to promote local tourism.

Sheriff seeks funds | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino on Monday asked county legislators to reimburse the village of Dolgeville about $10,000 for training for a past village officer his department might hire. The move was one of several sheriff’s office personnel items to come before the Board of Supervisors’ Public Safety Committee. Giardino sought and received committee permission to reimburse Dolgeville and its police department $9,657 for training related to the possible hiring of a certified former Dolgeville police officer. The full board will vote Feb. 8 on the proposed resolution. The sheriff said his department has offered a permanent deputy sheriff position to the former officer. He said state General Municipal Law has a provision that allows municipalities such as Dolgeville to seek reimbursement for a portion of the officer’s previous training.
