The historic ballroom of Admiralty House, now designed as an open plan living area
Once, the ballroom of Admiralty House was full of music and glamour: men in uniform, women in beautiful dresses, a swirl of Regency music, brass buttons, silk and satin.
Now, the ballroom comprises one of the most prestigious properties at the new Mount Wise re-development: a three-bedroom flat worth nearly a million pounds.
This grand Georgian building was originally built for the Governor of Plymouth, in 1793, on a prime spot overlooking Plymouth harbour. When the role of Governor was dissolved in the mid 1800s, the building was handed over to the Army and the Navy, who in 1935 re-named it from Governor's House to Admiralty House.
