ECPD: Witness deters armed suspect with firearm, suspect still on the loose
The witness told ECPD that the suspect dropped the knife and took off running after shots were fired
El Centro, Calif. (KYMA) - The El Centro Police Department says a man accused of an attempted stabbing during a vehicle break-in was deterred by an armed witness who shot at the suspect in an effort to help the victim.
Police responded to the report of shots fired in the 1200 block of Vine Street Tuesday at 2:50 a.m.
According to police, the suspect was caught breaking into a vehicle. When the owner of the car confronted the suspect, the suspect was armed with a knife and attempted to stab the vehicle owner, according to ECPD.

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The El Centro Police Department (ECPD) says an investigation into a stolen car recently led its officers to a potentially explosive discovery.
Someone stole a red Pontiac Grand Am Sunday morning from the 1600 block of Barbara Worth Drive. Less than three-hours after receiving the report, officers located the stolen vehicle in the 400 block of Wake Avenue.
Officers then saw two men leaving a nearby motel room carrying a number of bags. ECPD detained the men to question them about the Pontiac. Officers that s when motel staff alerted them to the discovery of military-style ordnance in the men s room.

El Centro, California - On Sunday, at approximately 9:11 a.m., officers took a report of a vehicle stolen from the 1600 block of Barbara Worth Drive in El Centro, California. The vehicle was described as a red Pontiac Grand Am. At 11:50 a.m., officers actively patrolling the 400 block of Wake Avenue located the stolen Pontiac.
Officers quickly detained two individuals, Roberto Avila (a 30-year-old resident of El Centro) and Alexis Flores (a 23-year-old resident of El Centro), leaving a local motel room carrying numerous bags of property. Officers detained Avila and Flores to investigate their potential involvement with the stolen vehicle. As this was occurring, motel staff approached officers and notified them of a military-type ordinance in the motel room. El Centro shooting leaves one man in hospital
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Police say a 23-year-old man was flown to a hospital after he was shot early Friday morning.
The El Centro Police says it received reports of a shooting just after 5:35 a.m. at the 1400 block of North 17th Street in El Centro.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the suspect with a gunshot wound. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene, but he was later flown to a hospital trauma center.
Police do not have information on the suspect (s) or motive on the shooting.
