UPDATE, MARCH 20: The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that Israel carried out “several dozen attacks” on Iranian ships transporting oil to Syria, inflicting “billions of dollars” in damage.
The investigation estimates that each shipment may include a million or more barrels of oil, worth up to $50 million. Most ships were targeted after they set out from ports in southern Iran and crossed the Red Sea, navigating the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean. Other used a longer route around Africa and passing through the Straits of Gibraltar into the Mediterranean. The port of destination was usually Baniyas, in western Syria.

(Bloomberg) The supertanker that became the one of most visible symbols of tension between the U.S. and Iran when it was seized off Gibraltar in 2019 has slipped quietly out of the Mediterranean Sea.
The Very Large Crude Carrier, known at the time as Grace 1, was impounded by authorities in July 2019 as it sailed into territorial waters around the British Overseas Territory. It was alleged to be carrying about 2 million barrels of Iranian crude to Syria in breach of European Union sanctions on providing oil the regime of Bashar Al Assad.
