Through heart failure, stroke and transplant, a young mother powered on Tiffany Dunn of Westbrook will celebrate this Mother s Day like none other. Ben McCanna/Staff Photographer This is the Mother’s Day Tiffany Dunn has been living for. “I’m excited to have some steaks on the grill, play in the yard,” Tiffany, 33, said with a happy laugh during an interview on Friday. “It’s going to be my first time untethered to anything. All the pictures that I’ve had in the last two years, I’ve had a bag strapped around me.” Tiffany and her husband, Mike, have a little girl name Isla, who will turn 3 in July. Someday when she’s older, little Isla will come to understand the full story of how she came into this world. At the center of the tale, she’ll find a superhero – also known as Momma.

Transplant Recipient Beats Odds, Celebrates 32 Years With New Heart

In 1989, a congenital heart condition called Marfan syndrome hospitalized Cook at just 25 years old. His only chance of survival was a heart transplant. A fatal motorcycle accident made a heart available, but it was on its way to someone else, when, Cook says, a miracle happened. The heart was a perfect match for him. “I was literally on the heart-lung bypass machine with no hope for survival at all when this beautiful heart that was scheduled to go somewhere else was turned around in the middle of this trip and given to me to last all these years,” he said.
