Elbit Systems has integrated a short-wave IR (SWIR) channel in the newest version of its Advanced Multi-Sensor Payload System (AMPS NG) for targeting and ISR. The new system is now in ‘final integration stages and flight tests’ aboard a UAV operated by an unnamed European air force, Elbit announced on 10 March. SWIR technology overcomes high humidity, smoke or dust. In AMPS NG it operates alongside day charge-coupled device TV cameras ‘and a unique, highly capable dual FLIR [forward-looking IR] sensor design’, the Israeli company added.

Israeli defense electronics company Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) has unveiled its next generation Advanced Multi-Sensor Payload System (AMPS NG). Added to the system is Shortwave Infrared (SWIR) technology to the existing day CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) TV sensors, and a new dual FLIR sensor design. Packed in the widely fielded two line-replacement unit (LRU) AMPS pod, the AMPS NG offers extended capabilities in all conditions, extending observation performance in limited visibility conditions, using its SWIR channel to effectively overcome high humidity, smoke or dust.
